Advanced Fabrication

Elective Graduate Course, Fall 2021-2022

Advanced Fabrication is an intensive, practice-based course that explores contemporary building materials through the lens of digital fabrication. Emphasizing material performance, custom joinery, and tectonic systems, the course integrates computational design with hands-on prototyping to develop innovative assembly strategies. Students engage with CNC milling, laser cutting, and robotic fabrication to interrogate the relationship between geometry, tooling, and material behavior. Through iterative design and fabrication processes, the course cultivates skills in translating digital models into precise physical assemblies, encouraging critical engagement with construction logic and emerging technologies. The outcome is a series of prototypes that reflect both material intelligence and design intent.
