Design Studio

Graduate Course, Fall 2022

This studio focused on a transit-oriented project addressing mobility concerns while responding to local issues in a Mumbai neighborhood. By examining the site at the intersection of Lower Parel Railway Station,Lower Parel Monorail, and Currey Road Station, students analyzed the existing urban fabric and developed a design promoting incremental growth, in contrast to the piecemeal development of Mumbai. Inspired by the concept of the Game of Life, students established eight rules governing neighborhood functionality, which formed the basis of the design. Collaborative teamwork fostered the exchange of diverse ideas and shared knowledge, and the outcomes were presented through models, drawings, and digital simulations, while the broader insights extended beyond tangible results.
