REUsel :
Rethinking Public Toilets
REUsel is a proposal based on three aspects:
SOCIAL - It has a constrained circular plan around the span of the open grid layout. The toilets for female and male have been isolated encouraging disciplined segregation for the semi-private spaces. It has arrangements of framework, some of them unbuilt that may bend over as waiting areas and multi-functional spaces to use as meet-up or flea market.
MATERIAL - Disposed plastic containers are reused as building material. This procedure is more effective than recycling and it generates a substitute function for the bottles instead
of degrading in landfills.
ECOLOGICAL -There is a water harvesting reservoir to gather and store water and the construction strategy has a low carbon footprint. Economically, the plastic containers are modest and locally available. The absolute waste generation is diminished and natural resources are preserved.
The proposition is a modular unit that can be imitated according to site conditions and available reusable materials. It makes a methodical arrangement and instructs users to be delicate towards the environment.
